7 Tips to Rock Your Engagement + Couple Session

Blog

1.  FORGET ABOUT PERFECTION

It should be heavily reiterated that there is absolutely no one perfect way to “ace” your photo session! This is not a test, and I won’t be handing out report cards afterwards. I mean, unless you really want me to. hehe.

2.  BE YOURSELVES

That being said the best way you can rock it is by showing up and being yourselves! Every couple of mine is different, so I don’t put anyone into a box, and you shouldn’t put yourselves into one either. That means if you’re loud and giggly be loud and giggly (I’ll be sure to provide lots of one-liners and fart jokes if that’s what you’re into). If you’re not as comfy in front of the camera, don’t you worry, I’ll be sure to provide all the cues and conversation to put you at ease so you can focus on each other.

3.  DRESS TRUE TO YOURSELVES

Wear outfits that are true to you. If you’re more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of duo, please come in your favorite combo! If you love to glam it up, let’s go all out and make you feel like the queen you are. There’s nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable in your own outfit. For more deets on specific outfit planning next week I will be sharing a styling 101 post or you can head over to my “pinterest” board for inspiration.

4.  PICK A LOCATION THAT REFLECTS YOU

Choose a setting + environment that means something to the both of you and/or fits who you are. Of course I’m always here to help in location scouting, but if you have a place that is dear to you (a certain city location, the farm you grew up on, the beach where you had a significant date, the home you bought together, etc) or a setting that you’re most comfortable in let’s make some magic there!

5.  INCLUDE THE MEANINGFUL STUFF

Along with setting, if you have items that are important to you as a couple let’s absolutely include them. You both play guitar? Have a doggo (please say yes), or a vintage car you’re restoring? BRING THEM. Especially the pup.

6.  COMMUNICATION IS KEY

If you are uncomfortable in any way–don’t feel on point with the pose I suggested, not a fan of fart jokes, etc. communication is key! This is about you guys and not me. I want you to feel at ease throughout your session, and I am thick skinned. If something is not working for you, tap me on the shoulder (or call me out) and let me know.

7. MAKE IT AN ALL DAY AFFAIR

Seriously, do it! If you’re stressed out running errands, or trying to meet your latest work deadline just hours before your shoot, that energy will come with you. Take the day for yourselves, have a date before or after (before AND after). Relax doing something you enjoy, that way when it’s time for your shoot you’re filled with love and excitement rather than looking to just cross the next thing off your to-do list.
